| Art of Seduction 50 wall objects This wall installation consists of 50 objects made of different ceramic material, hand-modelled or slip-cast in porcelain. Wilson uses clay because of its perfect plasticity and its facility for registering skin/surface and then fabric, braid and ribbon to fetishise them. They combine anatomy and ornamentation and were partly inspired by a visit to La Specola (a 17C anatomical museum) where the wax bodies are draped in satin and jewellery. It was obvious in the representation of these bodies that the opened body can become an object of desire linking sex and mortality. One of the wall pieces in the installation is based on a phrase from an Angela Carter book which states that in post-revolutionary France it became fashionable for women to wear red ribbon around their necks to show the mark of the guillotine. Wilson is interested in the way the visceral can be glamorised and ornamented. |
